organizations collaboratively organized  “Green Map Srilanka Coastal Cleanup 10.0 – Kudawella Harbour” event to clean the beaches from dumped garbage by the fellow nation.

The event is happenned on 7th October 2018 7.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m at  Kudawella harbor with the help of you guys. On behalf of GMSL, IACN and WCD teams, we would like to thank all the organizations and volunteers who participated for the Kudawella Coastal Cleanup happened on 7th October 2018.

The first phase of this project nearly 100 volunteers have participated in the event representing government and volunteer organizations and we were able to send nearly 5 tons of PET (Plastic Bottles) to the recycling plant.

The second phase currently we are working on the solid solution for kudawella harbor to collect segregated garbage and try to recycle most of them to minimize the impact to the environment. We are working with government and private companies to set up a pilot project for a few months and based on the results we will move on to the enhanced solution.

The third phase we are planning to remove all the remaining non-recyclable garbage from the coastal area. Some may go to Cement plant Puttalam and some we have to put into landfills.

We hope you guys will be with us for our future projects and will help us to make these coastal areas clean.

MOST IMPORTANTLY

PLEASE CHANGE YOUR DAILY HABITS OF USING PLASTIC AND POLYTHENE BY REDUCE USING, REUSE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND USE BIODEGRADABLE PRODUCTS.

Up to now, we were able to clean 13000+ kg garbage from Sri Lankan beaches by 10 coastal cleanup projects.

We experienced that we need more manpower to clean up this coastal area which no one going to clean forever.

Hope you will join us.

Thank You!
GMSL, IACN, WCD Teams.
